Institute Presentation
The University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) with its locations in Kiel and Lübeck is one of the largest medical care centers in Europe. UKSH serves to enable maximum medical care and guarantees medical-technical care at the highest level. As a hallmark of university medicine interdisciplanary interaction of health care, research and teaching results in rapid translation of scientific findings into clinical application for the benefit of patients.
The Institute for Experimental Cancer Research (IET) at the Medical Faculty of the Christian-Albrechts-University (CAU) is part of the Universitären Cancer Center Schleswig-Holstein (UCCSH). Currently, four research groups are working at IET, which together cover a broad spectrum of oncological research in terms of content and methodology and deal with different topics of experimental tumor research, particularly focussing on pancreatic cancer.
In addition, the Translationale Interdisziplinäre Biobank Kiel (TRIBanK) is located at IET which is a member of the central biobank network P2N of the Medical Faculty. TRIBanK has been collecting liquid biopsies and tissue samples along with clinical data from more than 8.000 patients with gastrointestinal and lung tumours as well as benign diseases of the respective organ systems in a structured and standardised manner. By this, biosamples and clinical data from over 650 pancreati cancer patients and over 100 patients with benign pancreatic diseases are available.
In PANCAID, TRIBanK at UKSH is one of the providers of liquid biopsies and clinical data from patients with pancreatic cancer, pancreatic precursor lesions or benign control diseases to develop a blood based test for early detection of pancreatic cancer.
