Masterclasses

PANCAID is an interdisciplinary research consortium that involves 18 partners from eight countries, bringing together expertise from various fields such as oncology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and clinical research.

The PANCAID project recognizes the value of investing in the development of early career researchers, who will play a crucial role in advancing the field of pancreatic cancer research. To facilitate this, the project will be offering masterclasses tailored to the specific needs and interests of early career researchers within the consortium.

These masterclasses will provide opportunities for skill-building, knowledge-sharing, and networking, enabling researchers to develop new perspectives and approaches to their work, as well as to connect with peers and experts in the field.

First masterclass: Molecular Pathophysiology of PDAC by Francisco X. Real, MD, PhD from CNIO

This lecture on the molecular pathophysiology of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) provides a comprehensive exploration of the disease’s genetic underpinnings and molecular intricacies. Beginning with an overview of the pancreas and its role in pancreatic cancer development, Francisco X. Real explores the genetic road to PDAC, elucidating key mutations and signaling pathways implicated in tumor initiation and progression. The lecture extends to PDAC subtypes and its implications for early diagnosis and rounds off by highlighting the importance and capabilities of using genetic mouse models.

Guest Lecture: AI in Pancreatic Cancer (the imaging point of view) by PANCAIM member Dawid Rutkowski

How can artificial intelligence (AI) help clinicians identify pancreatic cancer early on? This and more questions will be answered by Dawid Rutkowski, PhD student at the group of PANCAID co-coordinator Prof. Matthias Löhr at Karolinska Institutet and member of the PANCAIM project. Dawid gave a talk on his work in the course of PANCAIM – AI in pancreaticccancer (the imaging point of view).
Dawid recently won a prize for his research on AI in pancreatic cancer.
PANCAIM is an European consortium to improve pancreatic cancer treatment with artificial intelligence optimizing and integrating genomics and medical imaging.
