The Ramón y Cajal Health Research Institute (IRYCIS) is a health research institute created on 2009 between Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal (HURYC), three Spanish universities Alcalá de Henares University (UAH), Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and Autónoma University of Madrid (UAM) and the Foundation for Biomedical Research of Ramón y Cajal University Hospital (FIBioHRC). IRYCIS consists of 42 research groups, encompassing basic, translational and clinical research departments, which are organized in 6 research areas, and 11 supporting Units as (biobank; Clinical trials and clinical research unit, data science, bioinformatics, etc). Molecular epidemiology and predictive markers in cancer Group is an IRYCIS research groups from Universidad de Alcalá and HURYC members, lead by Dr. Alfredo Carrato, focus their activity on the phenotypic and molecular characterization of gastrointestinal cancer carcinogenesis and the study of its protumorogenic mechanisms; the identification of prognostic and predictive factors of the efficacy of antineoplastic treatments for solid tumors; the identification of biomarkers. for a precision oncology especially focused on the use of liquid biopsy. Likewise, since the beginning of its trajectory, the group has developed an active and progressive participation in national and international clinical trials (phase I, II and III).

As expert group in liquid biopsy in PDAC (circulating nucleic acids), secondary screening of high-risk individuals and cancer genetics. Our role is data and sample collection (PDAC cases and non-PDAC lesions).
